Some of what you'll be doing:
This is a full-time summer internship position. In this role you will work closely with Port of Seattle Strategic Advisors, policy staff and elected Commissioners to support commission priorities.
Essential duties may include:
- Drafting and editing commission policy for consideration, meeting memos and notes. Conducting and presenting issue and policy research.
- Staffing Commissioners at meetings and public events. Drafting talking points.
- Working with Port staff on commission priorities and projects.
- Administrative and other duties as assigned are likely to make up a portion of the job responsibilities.
- Duties may be adjusted to focus on intern's specific abilities or interest if they correspond with Commission office need.
Who you are:

A Student - You are enrolled in or recently graduated from a Graduate degree program (interns are eligible to work up to, but no more than 12 months post-graduation) with a graduate degree in Business, Public Administration, Public Policy and/or a related field.
Students that are a minimum of an undergraduate senior student with confirmation of acceptance into a graduate program for the upcoming Fall or sooner will be considered.

You’re able to write clear, concise memos that reflects Commissioner direction and discussions. You're able to organize events and engage in group discussion. You are able to take notes at meetings and quickly turn around summary memos. You may be required to present reports in public.

You should be sensitive to the needs and expectations of commissioners and other elected officials or representing organizations.
- Desired - You have an interest in the public sector role in maritime, aviation and economic development sectors. Have a strong interest or experience working with elected officials.
What else you need to know:

Work Schedule – This is a full-time (40 hours per week) summer internship position. Normal work hours will be scheduled Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Hours may extend to weekends or evenings on occasion.

Work Environment – This role will be conducted both remotely and in an office environment as directed. Occasional travel between various Port locations may be necessary.

Limited Duration – This is a limited duration position and is expected to last no longer than five months.
- Washington State Residency Requirement – Employees must establish a residence in Washington State within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
