Coliseum Central Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for executing and managing the marketing, communications, and community engagement strategies for Coliseum Central. This role will focus on digital content creation, social media management, website upkeep, billboard program, and event promotion, while ensuring all efforts align with organizational goals and help elevate the district’s public presence. The ideal candidate will have a passion for digital marketing and a strong ability to engage with both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Website Management and Maintenance:
    • Oversee regular updates and maintenance of Coliseum Central’s website, ensuring it is current, user-friendly, and aligned with the district’s branding.
    • Collaborate with internal teams and contractors to optimize the website’s functionality and user experience.
    • Implement and manage SEO strategies to improve website visibility and search engine rankings.
  • Social Media Management:
    • Develop and execute comprehensive social media strategies across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.), ensuring a minimum of 20 posts per month.
    • Engage with the community on social media platforms by responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely manner.
    • Monitor social media analytics and provide reports to optimize engagement and growth.
  • Newsletter Coordination and Publishing:
    • Manage the creation and design of monthly newsletters (printed and digital newsletter) to inform stakeholders about district news, upcoming events, and important updates.
    • Repurpose content from newsletters for website, social media posts, blog articles, and other digital communication channels.
    • Collaborate with team members to gather content and ensure the newsletters align with strategic goals.
    • Manage the district’s CRM including all mailing addresses and digital contact information.
  • Content Creation and Strategy:
    • Write compelling content for the website, social media, newsletters, press releases, and promotional materials.
    • Develop and implement digital marketing campaigns, including email marketing and online promotions.
    • Produce creative assets (photos, videos, graphics) for use on digital platforms and in promotional materials.
  • Event Promotion:
    • Work with event planning teams to promote district events and initiatives through digital channels.
    • Create promotional content and collateral to support event marketing efforts.
    • Coordinate digital promotions with sponsors and partners to ensure broad visibility.
  • Marketing Efforts: 
    • Community engagement, initiatives, district wide campaigns (billboard)

    • Oversee District wide marketing efforts including the annual billboard program, Vistity touring platform, and others as launched.
    • Work with the Deputy Director to oversee the billboard program including vendor coordination, program and campaign goals, tracking of program details, and implementation of program.
  • PR & Outreach:
    • Develop relationships with local media outlets and ensure positive coverage for district events, initiatives, and campaigns.
    • Draft and distribute press releases, media advisories, and feature articles.
    • Serve as a contact for media inquiries and work to strengthen the district’s media presence.
  • Reporting and Analysis:
    • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) for marketing campaigns, including website traffic, social media engagement, and email open rates.
    • Prepare regular reports for leadership on the success of digital campaigns and make recommendations for future improvements.
  • Brand Development and Consistency:
    • Ensure all marketing and communication materials are consistent with Coliseum Central’s brand guidelines.
    • Work with team members to develop new branding initiatives and promotional strategies.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in communications, marketing, or digital content creation.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools, website management platforms (e.g., WordPress), and SEO best practices.
  • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for digital marketing, public relations, and community engagement.


 About Coliseum Central Business Improvement District (BID)
The Coliseum Central Business Improvement District (BID), established by the Hampton City Council in 1996, is a special service-taxing district authorized under Virginia Commonwealth Law. Covering over 1,900 commercial acres and representing more than 650 property owners and businesses in Hampton, VA, Coliseum Central is strategically located at the intersection of I-64 and I-664, halfway between Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. The district’s boundaries are set to be renewed in 2031.

Coliseum Central is primarily funded through a surtax on the property taxes of commercial properties within the BID. These funds are supplemented by event sponsorships, program contributions, and other sources of revenue.

The BID uses its funds to support various projects, programs, and initiatives aimed at enhancing the district’s physical appearance, safety and security, and marketing efforts, ultimately fostering a thriving and well-promoted business community.
