Internship: This position is a paid, full-time, limited term assignment that offers interns the opportunity to gain substantive hands on experience. Interns enjoy the opportunity to get training and mentoring from experienced professionals in one or more areas. Interns may also be eligible to continue working part-time through the fall and spring semesters, depending on department and agency needs.

The Social Media Intern is responsible for assisting with social media initiatives. The incumbent will research trends, create and manage engaging social media content, track performance metrics, and foster user engagement to support TRS’ mission and goals. The position will proactively work with the Communications team, intern cohorts, and agency employees.


 

This position will start June 4th and will end August 8th 2025.

Salary will be dependent upon education level:

Undergraduate (Junior or Senior) - $19.50/hour

Graduate Student - $21.00/hour

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
 

Creative Content Development
• Researches the latest trends and crafts compelling social media narratives for TRS members and retirees.
• Designs and executes innovative social media content that aligns with TRS’ mission and goals.
• Collaborates with the Communications Team to produce insightful and captivating posts that educate, inform, and spark conversations.
• Schedules and publishes social media posts across various platforms to ensure a consistent TRS brand experience.
• Helps develop the TRS online voice, maintaining consistency and clarity in all communications.
• Brings agency events to life through real-time social media coverage.
Analytics & Engagement
• Keeps a pulse on TRS’ digital presence by tracking and interpreting key social media performance metrics (e.g., reach, engagement).
• Transforms data analytics into actionable insights to steer TRS social media strategies toward success.
• Identifies emerging trends and recommends improvements to help TRS stay ahead of the curve.
• Interacts with TRS’ social community by providing thoughtful responses and nurturing a positive online environment.
• Builds and maintains trust with social media audiences to position TRS social channels as the go-to source for information and support.

• Performs related work as assigned.


 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

Required Education
• Currently enrolled in and actively attending an accredited college or university as an undergraduate student with a declared major in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related program and within 12 months of graduation.
• Applicant will be required to submit a copy of official college transcripts.
Required Experience
• None.
Required Registration, Certification, or Licensure
• None.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with crafting visual and video content creation that tells a story and captures attention.
• Proficient with social media platforms and management tools like Hootsuite.


 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
• General office practices and procedures.
• Basic knowledge of social media analytics tools to track and interpret performance metrics.
• How different platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube) work and their unique features.
Skills in:
• Generating ideas for social media content.
• Using social media, including Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
• Organizing and prioritizing work to manage a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment, and completing work accurately while meeting deadlines.
• Conducting data searches and evaluations of large amounts of information, performing complex analysis of the data, and preparing concise and accurate reports and written/oral recommendations.
• Verbal and written communication of complex information that is accurate, timely, and based on sound judgment.
• Providing quality customer service.
• Using a personal computer in a Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) environment, and accurately performing data entry.
Ability to:
• Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and other external contacts.
• Work effectively in a professional team environment.
• Engage with the online community and foster positive interactions.
