I liked being able to work in a lab and establish if I wanted to make a career out of doing so.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have gotten an opportunity to go out of state as well to do an internship.

Advice

Commit yourself to work 40 hours a week. Make room in your schedule and prioritize. Even though it is not school, I was exected to read research articles.

What I liked

Very friendly staff, smooth training process, the job is enjoyable on its own, but I love interacting with other students and faculty coming in and out of the store.

What I wish was different

Wish I would have started sooner! I had not realized how easy the application process would be through the Handshake App!

Advice

The University Store is a great on-campus job, and is really easily applied to. Friendly staff & flexible hours based around your student schedule.

Helping people get assistive technology and have technology work for them. The staff was great and the location nice as well.

What I wish was different

I wish we had better computers. The computers were slow and sometimes unresponsive.

Advice

I say you need to truly consider things from another perspective. Be able to think about what you would need from technology if you were blind, deaf, or had trouble using a mouse.

What I liked

I love been able to assist students with their academic planning, and all the advisers and supervisor in the office. It is very family oriented office. They help me and my co-workers improve daily. Best thing ever happened in my life.

When answering phone calls to customers, do not ever take their sign of distress seriously. Answer their question(s) effectively and efficiently and brush it off and go to the next person because it will drive you insane worrying and asking yourself questions, such as "What did I do wrong?" When the situation was not even about you.

What I liked

I loved being able to meet incoming freshmen and transfer students. I also loved being an official Towson representative.

What I wish was different

I wish that the job could have been year long. I made genuine friendships with a lot of people that I won't see again during the semester.

Advice

I would say that you need to be some sort of extrovert for this job. If not, the job may be uncomfortable at times because as an Orientation Leader you are forced to talk to students and or family members.

What I liked

I have had my internship with Towson University's Environmental Health & Safety department since September 2017 and I had loved every moment of my time there. I would rather be working in a fast paced job where there's always some work to be done than in a slow moving job where I run out of work quickly. There's always something new to do at work. I have learned how to work in an office setting-- including the work I did. A lot of the work I do is repetitive (i.e. entering new hires or separated employees on a list for our department) so it has become second nature working with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.
